What is hydroxypropyl starch?
Hydroxypropyl starch (HPS) is a modified starch extracted from non genetically modified corn through a controlled chemical modification process. By introducing hydroxypropyl groups into the molecular structure of starch, its solubility, flexibility, and film-forming properties are enhanced, making it an ideal material for plant-based soft capsule shells.

Unlike gelatin derived from animal by-products, HPS is 100% plant-based, allergen free, and meets the requirements of vegan, halal, and kosher diets.

Technical Advantage
Our technological advantages
  • 01

    Batch consistency

The first fully automatic hydroxypropyl starch production line in China ensures that the specifications of each batch are completely consistent, and the viscosity, transparency and gel behavior are stable batch by batch.
  • 02

    Crystal clear shell

The capsule shells produced by HPS have excellent transparency and high-end visual quality that cannot be compared to gelatin and other plant-based alternatives, making them ideal for beauty brands that require luxurious product aesthetics.
  • 03

    Cost-effectiveness

The yield ratio of gel is as high as 1:2.9. After melting, the gel solution is stable for 24 hours. The waste gel can be fully recovered and reused, significantly reducing the unit production cost.
  • 04

    Customized formula

Pure starch gel and mixed plant gel are available. The technical team collaborates with clients to develop customized formulas that meet specific needs.
Production process
7-step gel melting and pellet pressing process (about 4 hours)
  • Weighing ratio

    Ingredients: Water: Glycerol
    =
    1:(1.3-1.5):(0.3-0.5)
    01
  • Water oil cold mixing

Add purified water and glycerol, start stirring, and after 3 minutes, discharge 20% of the mixture from the bottom of the tank for later use
    02
  • Feeding

Stabilize the raw materials into the gel melting tank, and flush the agitator and tank wall with the reserved water oil mixture
    03
  • Heating adhesive glue

The jacket temperature is 110 ° C, and the tank body is set at 102 ° C. Start heating and wait for 90-120 minutes after the tank reaches 90 ° C
    04
  • Room temperature stirring

Stir at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to ensure uniform gel
    05
  • Vacuum pumping once

The jacket is set at 102 ° C and vacuumized for 1-3 minutes to remove bubbles in gel solution
    06
  • Secondary vacuuming and pellet pressing

40-60 minutes after one vacuum pumping, adjust the jacket to 92 ° C, stop mixing, vacuum for 1-3 minutes, and gel can be used for pressing pills
